Zachary Lennon Briggs

WEAVERVILLE – Zachary Lennon Briggs, age 40, formerly of Newport News, VA and current resident of Weaverville/Asheville, NC area, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Zach was born February 4, 1986, in Hampton, VA but lived in Newport News until after college. He graduated from Menchville High School and received an Art Degree from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA.

Zach was a gifted songwriter and musician. He wrote and recorded music at an early age with his dad, Al Briggs. He was always sketching and making art but entered college hoping for a business degree. He quickly discovered Art was his love after winning an art contest and switched his major to Art. He went on to work at Moog as a tour guide, in the Moog music showroom, and in the service department. He fell in love with synthesizer music, recording several albums, and went on to perform as a DJ under the stage name Mordaga.

Surviving are his children, Evey and Harlan; mother, Valerie Briggs (Canton, NC); sister, Zoe Briggs; brother, Zane Briggs; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Allen Briggs; grandparents, Chab and Winona Burchett, Alene Briggs Hollowell, A.L. Briggs, and Jake Hollowell.
