Winifred Fisher Womack

WEAVERVILLE – Winifred “Winnie” Fisher Womack, 76, of Weaverville went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2022 in the presence of her pastor and family.

Winnie was born in Florence, SC.  She was the daughter of the late Charles Hollis Womack and Winifred Fisher Womack.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Hollis Womack, Jr. and William “Billy” Campbell Womack.

Winnie moved to the Asheville area in the early 1970’s and began a career with NOAA working in various capacities.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Weaverville and upon retirement volunteered in the church office for several years.

In 2010 she received the gift of life in the form of a kidney transplant and was forever grateful to God, the donor, and her medical team.

Winnie graduated from the University of Georgia and was an avid UGA Bulldog fan her entire life.  (Go Dawgs!)  One of the highlights of this passion was the opportunity to cohost a party honoring Vince and Barbara Dooley.

It was very important to Winnie to stay well informed by watching the local and national news daily.  She viewed the right to vote as a privilege which she took very seriously and never missed an opportunity to vote.

Winnie was a determined, independent spirit and an overcomer.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Winfield Word-Sims and all of the friends that helped Winnie throughout her life’s journey.

Surviving are her sister, Pat Womack; nieces, Elizabeth Womack Sclater and Catherine Womack; great nephews, Graham and Grey Sclater and great niece, Gracie Sclater; cousins, Julie and Mark Vinson, Cebie Perkins, Buck and Cindy Schnibben, and Hervey and Beth Fisher.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on January 14, 2023, at Christ United Methodist Church, 81 Garrison Branch Rd #2, Weaverville, NC 28787.  Attendees may consider wearing red and black in honor of Winnie’s favorite team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church of Weaverville.

For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Winifred’s obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.
