CLYDE – Vivian Joyce Smith McDarris, age 88, died Monday, August 27, 2018. Ms. McDarris was born July 27, 1930 in Buncombe County to the late Roy Elias and Beulah Viola McDaris Smith. Vivian was a retired tailor, chef and author of “Black Fog”, under her pen name, V.J. Mack. She was a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Waynesville. Surviving are daughters, Linda C. Whitted, Judy C. Smith, and Kay C. Free; sister, Betty Jo Parnell; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Waynesville. Reverends Tim McConnell and Leyton Alan Mears will officiate. Family and friends are invited to wear lime green colored clothing in honor of Vivian’s favorite color. She will be laid to rest in the columbarium at West Memorial Park close to the water fall. West Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be made to: Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church “The Imagine Building Fund” PO Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745 or American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
