Thomas Edward Stevens

ASHEVILLE – Thomas “Tom” Edward Stevens, age 85, of Asheville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Thomas was born August 19, 1932 in Buncombe County to the late Richard and Fannie Roberts Stevens; he was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He served in the US Air Force and retired from Verizon in 1991 after 30 years of service. Tom was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Haney Stevens; sisters, Nell Bell, and Sue Capps and husband Gene; and a brother, Joe Stevens and wife Sarah; special friend, Ron Rice and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverends Andy McDevitt and Ricky Wolfe will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. The family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
