WEAVERVILLE - It is with both heavy hearts and fond memories that we share the passing of Terrance “Terry” David Devereaux, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, who passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 86.
Terry was a true original – whether it was cruising in his car or tinkering in the garage; everything always organized and with a “laminated” text card with instructions. Terry cherished family gatherings, and his home was often a welcoming hub where everyone, young and old, felt valued and entertained. We were all blessed with years of Terry’s friendship, love and humor….particularly, his humor!
Born on January 22, 1939, Terry grew up in Scranton, PA, alongside his brothers, Charles and Raymond, sister, Arlene, and their numerous cousins in the Devereaux clan.
Terry was a source of both mischief and inspiration, bringing people together with his love of singing, dancing, cruising in antique cars with Vicki and reading. He was a fan of UCONN Huskins basketball and Coach Geno Auriemma and PENN State football.
Terry attended Scranton Central High School in Scranton, PA. He served in the US Army as a member of the Inter-America Geodetic Survey (IAGS) group maintaining Army helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He was assigned as crew chief of a Dehauilland U1A Otter in Bogata, Colombia. He attended Keystone Junior College in La Plume, PA where he was the high scorer of the basketball team. At Penn State University in State College, PA, he majored in Transportation, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Terry’s employment was with various major supermarket chains in Philadelphia, Sacramento and Cleveland where he served as Director of Transportation.
While living in Sacramento, CA Terry met and married Vicki Houston in 1989.
Terry’s love for singing was inherited from his father (who was always humming a song). He followed him in joining the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEGSQSA) for 57 years. His quartet “The Harmony Trust” won first place East Central Division. Terry sang with various quartets throughout the years in PA, NJ, DE, VA, NY and NC.
His most memorable singing experiences were Hudson Playhouse, Hudson, Ohio – “Music Man’; Lake Waynewood, PA – “Trouble in River City”; PA Supreme Court Justices, banquet at the Governor’s Mansion in Harrisburg, PA, meeting Governor Richard Thornburgh, and wife, Ginny Hooton Thornburgh.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Vicki Houston Devereaux; daughters, Cinda Piacitelli and husband, Tom of Plymouth Mtg. PA; Tami Melasecca of Bristol, VA; Michele O’Malley of E. Norriton, PA. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond; his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond C. Devereaux and Catherine Gaffney Devereaux; sister, Arlene O’Hara; brother, Charles Devereaux; grandson, Christopher Piacitelli; and stepdaughter, Heather Chalk.
A private celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 223 W. Jackson Blvd, Suite 350, Chicago, IL 60606 (1-888-733-6741) www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
