MARSHALL – Stanley Allen Strohm, age 90, of Marshall, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at River Bend Health and Rehab.

Stan was born on June 8, 1936, in Nebraska, the son of the late Raymond and Minnie Fairbanks Strohm. He grew up in Table Rock, Nebraska, served his country in the United States Army, and earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska. His career took him and his family across the country, living and working in 16 different states. Stan managed the construction of roads, bridges, missile sites, power plants, automobile manufacturing facilities, prisons, and hospitals. He and his wife of 67 years, Joanie, settled in Madison County, North Carolina, in 1999, where Stan concluded his career managing renovation and expansion work at the Asheville VA Medical Center.

Stan loved the outdoors and remained active throughout his life. He enjoyed taking his family camping, hunting and fishing, and was an avid runner who competed in many races. He also enjoyed cycling on scenic roads and golf, whether playing a round himself or watching one on television. He loved gardening and took particular pleasure in building birdhouses, putting out seed, and watching the birds that made his yard their home.

His faith and commitment to serving others were important parts of his life. Stan served on the Weaverville United Methodist Church Council, sang in the church choir, and volunteered his time and talents building homes with Habitat for Humanity. He and Joanie also volunteered during election seasons, helping fellow citizens understand their right to vote, where and how to cast their ballots, and the choices before them. Stan believed that the right to vote should never be taken for granted and that participating in our democracy is both a privilege and a civic responsibility. In his memory, his family encourages everyone who is eligible to exercise that right and make their voices heard.

Quiet by nature, Stan had a keen sense of humor and a generous spirit. He loved his dogs, but above all, he loved his family dearly and was deeply loved in return.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carole Gold. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joanie; sons, Greg, Mark, Chris and Steve and his wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Christopher, Cassandra, Michael, Tyler, Andrea, and Ellie; and great-granddaughters, Sadie, Kora, and Freya.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Weaverville United Methodist Church, 85 N. Main St., Weaverville, with Rev. Linda Kelly officiating.
