Sherry Lynn Lawing

BARNARDSVILLE – Sherry Lynn Lawing, age 71, born on September 6, 1954, in Buncombe County passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2025. She was known for her unwavering dedication and service as a school bus driver for Buncombe County Schools, where she positively impacted countless children throughout her career.

Sherry was the beloved wife of Roy D. Lawing and a proud mother to her sons, Rex "Reggie" Whitted and wife, Penny, Jeremy Whitted and Bryan Whitted and wife, Marie. She also leaves behind a sister, Cindy Dunn.

Sherry's legacy continues through her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her love and guidance.

She was predeceased by her father, James Lawrence Ward, and mother, Doris Jeanette West Ward along with a sister, Denise Cody.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Rogers officiating. Following the service, Sherry will be laid to rest in Whitted Family Cemetery on Dula Springs, Road, Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
