Ruth Gibson Shipman, age 92, of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Mrs. Shipman was born July 22, 1933, in Buncombe County where she had lived all her life. She was a founding member of New Hope Baptist Church who enjoyed reading her Bible, taught Sunday School and loved her Church family.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. Joseph Bivens Gibson and Gussie Snyder Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Banks; and brother, Rev. Bobby Gibson.
Surviving is her husband of 68 years on October 2nd, George C. Shipman; children: sons, George A. (Tony) Shipman and wife Cheryl of Leicester, and Kenneth Shipman and wife Donna of Asheville, and daughter, Beth McLamb and husband Kevin of Alexander; grandchildren, Marcitta Burnette, Tabitha Heiser, Makaila Shipman, Phillip Shipman and wife Laura, Ryan Shipman, Kolby McLamb and wife Brittany, and Karlie Riddle and husband Max; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Larry Coates, Rev. Jonathan Sluder, and Rev. Danny Little officiating. Burial will follow in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, 625 Olivette Rd., Asheville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the funeral home.
