Russell Clarkson Hensley

WOODFIN - Russell C. “Corkey” Hensley, age 80, of Woodfin, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Corkey was born on September 12, 1942 in Unicoi County, Tennessee and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life.

He was former employed at Melton’s Gulf in Woodfin, David Morgan Furniture, and later at B.J. Mountain.

He was the son of the late Embra S. and Mary Mathis Hensley and was the husband of the late Betty Hensley who died in 2022.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Roscoe Hensley

Surviving Corkey is his sister Billie Mason; brother, Jerome Hensley and wife Paula; sister-in-law, Kathleen Hensley; nephew, Mark Hensley; niece, Melissa Shook and husband Mark; great-nephews Justin Shook and Cody Shook; and great-great-nephew James Shook. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.  Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
