Roger Dale Gentry of Weaverville, NC passed away on December 31, 2021, after a battle with lung cancer.

Roger was born April 5, 1951, in Marion, VA. In his youth, Roger worked at a sawmill in the mountains outside of Marion, Va. He later joined the United States Army where he served from 1969-1975. After his time in the Army, Roger worked on offshore oil rigs along the coastlines of Virginia and Texas, until he was disabled in 1984.

Roger was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville. He considered the church members there his family.

He is survived by his adopted son, Roger Alan Gentry, of Marion, VA; and two granddaughters of Marion, VA.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, 30 Alabama Avenue, Weaverville, NC 28787. Rev. Skip Gillikin will officiate. Inurnment of his remains will be held in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at a future date.
