Richard C. Morgan

WEAVERVILLE – Richard C. Morgan, age 99, of Weaverville, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Mr. Morgan was born April 28, 1926, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He drove the Enka bus, school bus, hauled coal, was a truck driver with G&H and Bowman Transportation and Watkins. He was a lifelong farmer who raised cattle, tobacco and gardens. He always helped people in the community whenever they needed it. He was a member of Vance Lodge 293 AF & AM for 77 years. He was a lifetime member of Morgan Hill Baptist Church and a Deacon from 1970 to 2004. He loved people and would talk to anyone. Richard was a loving father and grandfather. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Wallin Morgan; his father, Harold Morgan; his mother, Mary Cheek Early; brother, Billy Morgan; and sisters, Helen Rice, Peggy Duyck, and Clara Wooten.

He is survived by his children, Betsy Morgan, Rick Morgan (Linda), Karen Hawkins (Stan), and Lori Morgan; brother, Raymond Morgan (Mary); grandchildren, Jennifer King (Joel), Merissa Brady (Joe), Andrea Mabry (Justin), Jordan Forsythe (Taylor), Grace Morgan, Richard Clayton, and Morgan Irwin (Tim); four great granddaughters; four great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Larry Sprinkle and Rev. Tommy Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 28 Ivy Hill Rd., Weaverville.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m., Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
