Rhonda Murray Mobley was born on June 29, 1950, in Macon, Georgia, to Malcolm S. Murray and Lois Phillips Murray. She grew up in DeKalb County in Atlanta and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1968, where she was a proud member of the National Honor Society.
Rhonda earned a B.A. in Psychology from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1971, followed by an M.S. ‘74 and Ph.D ‘76 in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia. She married Steven Hobbs in 1977, and together they had two children, Melissa and Michael. After separating, she reunited with her high school friend William “Bill” Mobley, marrying him in 2006.
Rhonda devoted more than 30 years to her career as a clinical psychologist, including many years with the Veterans Administration, where her compassion and insight supported veterans coping with post-traumatic stress disorder.
An active Rotarian, she served as President-Elect of the Vinings Rotary Club before moving to Iowa in 2006. She was a Paul Harris Fellow for over a decade and honored as a Major Donor, Level 3, by the Rotary International Foundation.
After retiring, Rhonda and Bill settled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, they relocated to Weaverville, NC, where she received loving care and support from many wonderful caregivers and the staff at Brookdale Walden Ridge.
She is survived by her husband, William C. Mobley of Weaverville; daughter, Melissa Murray-Hobbs of Asheville, NC; son, Michael Murray-Hobbs of New York, NY; sister, Pamela Murray Holmberg of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, Steven Murray of Gainesville, GA; brother-in-law Richard Holmberg of Lawrenceville, GA; and niece, Haley Holmberg of Lawrenceville, GA.
