Rev. Jim Moore

Weaverville-Rev. Jim Moore, age 73, of Weaverville was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, Monday, December 4, 2023.

Jim was born in Buncombe County, September 6, 1950, to Columbus and Molly Watkins Moore. Except for a brief time, Jim was a lifetime resident of Banks Town Road, Weaverville. He was a proud Black Hawk and graduated from North Buncombe High School in 1968. Jim attended Seminary at Fruitland Baptist Seminary that started 45 years of pastoring. He shepherded first at Pine Burr Park Baptist Church for 15 years before being led to the Christian Chapel where he served for 25 years. Jim was then a member of Celebration Church where he was called to pastor for the last five years.

There aren’t enough words to fully capture the heart of Jim. Of all his roles, he was most proud to be called husband, dad, and papaw. He had compassion for all, was generous, was always willing to help, loved a good dad joke, and enjoyed traveling and glamping with Wilma. Before Jim’s retirement he was always drawn to positions where he could serve others; Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, Ingles, Montgomery Ward, and Saturn. During his time at the latter two he was recognized with many local and national awards. During his retirement he was on staff at West Funeral Home, a position he truly viewed as a ministry.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Molly, and his siblings, Katherine, Bill, and Bobby.

Left to cherish his memories are his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Wilma Arwood Moore. His children, Stephanie and Michael Chambers, and Cameron and Samantha Moore. The lights of his life, his granddaughters, Sydney, Riley, Camryn, Hannah, and Harper.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday, December 8, 2023, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Robin Fisher and Rev. Lanny Cobb officiating. Burial will follow at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023, at West Funeral Home.
