Reid Richard Ballew

BARNARDSVILLE – Reid Richard Ballew, age 92, of Barnardsville went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Reid was born on June 24, 1933, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He was an avid Bible reader “cover to cover”. He had a collection of vehicles and heavy equipment as well as operated them. He harvested rocks and always said “a $100 a scoop”. He was a rock mason and a farmer. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed being in the mountains, and fishing. He was a veteran of the US Army, WWII and Korean conflict.

Reid was the son of the late Henry Wiliam and Ollie Jane Harwood Ballew. He is also preceded in death by his late wife, Joyce Burrell Ballew; brothers, Linley and Monroe Ballew; sisters, Ruth Harwood, Evelyn Payne, Olene Ledford, Marie Golden, Margarett Prewitt, Eloise Ballew, Nina Riddle and Wanda Jordan.

Surviving is his sister, Joyce Hensley; special friends, Jimmy Boone, David Carson and Larry Rouse; and including many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Reid were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street in Weaverville with Pastor David Crowder and Chaplain Jody Griffin officiating.
