Rachel Mary Benjamin

ASHEVILLE - Rachel Mary Benjamin, born on August 19, 1952, in LaPorte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Rachel was known for her warm personality and willingness to lend a helping hand. Her commitment to community service exemplified her character and deep-seated belief in humanity’s ability to uplift one another. Rachel made significant contributions as a volunteer at various homeless shelters, as she provided invaluable assistance to those in need. She also engaged in newspaper work and served as a medical receptionist in home health, roles that allowed her to touch the lives of many individuals within her community. Rachel was a beacon of compassion and support throughout her life, reflecting her unwavering dedication to helping others.

An accomplished writer and poetry enthusiast, Rachel found joy in the written word, using it as a means of self-expression and connection. She cherished nature, often participating in long walks that allowed her to appreciate the beauty of her surroundings. In her youth, she was an active member of a Masonic Lodge and enjoyed participating in Job's Daughters, gatherings that fostered camaraderie and community spirit.

Rachel is survived by her loving husband, Judah Benjamin, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage. As a devoted partner, she nurtured a deep bond that enriched both their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lorena Gobels Halasz.

Rachel's legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication to service will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her contributions to the community and the love she shared with her family and friends will be remembered fondly.
