WEAVERVILLE – Linda “Penny” Moore Wood, age 73, passed away at her residence on Friday, May 14, 2021.
Mrs. Wood was born May 24, 1947 in Buncombe County to the late Charles and Dorothy Sawyer Moore; she had lived most of her life in Buncombe County. For 30 years she worked and retired from Bellsouth. A longtime member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church and later Brookstone; she had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir. Penny loved her Lord, her church and her family. She enjoyed traveling all over to watch her granddaughter dance. A devoted mother and wife, she cared for her husband throughout his illness of 17 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Dwayne Wood who died in 2019; sister, Joanne and brother in-law, Roger Kramer.
Surviving are her daughter, Kelly Dawn Williams and husband Dennis of Flat Rock; son, Kevin Wood and wife Natalie of Hendersonville; sister, Charlene “Sisty” Kramer; brothers, Charles “Buzzy” Moore and wife Marcia and Michael Moore and wife Jean; granddaughter, Taylor Williams; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Tay Sawyer and wife Kat of Panama Beach, FL.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 20, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Dykes and Pastor Ken Roberts will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the funeral home.
