Oie Hall

WEAVERVILLE - Oie Hall, 84, of Weaverville passed away July 26, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born April 19, 1934 in Madison County. He was the son of the late James Oliver and Hulda Shook Hall. He is also preceded in death by his faithful dog “Spot”. Oie was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served for four years. Part of this time was overseas in Libya. He worked for the American Enka Plant as a chemist until the rayon division shut down. He then went to work for the City of Asheville Water Department. He worked at the North Fork Reservoir in Black Mountain where he earned his Class A water treatment certificate. When the Bee Tree Reservoir in Swannanoa opened, Oie was transferred and worked there until his retirement in 1999. Even though Oie always had a fulltime job outside the home, he was a farmer and loved to work the land. He raised cattle, a huge garden and tobacco for many, many years. He knew the meaning of hard work from an early age and was not afraid of it. He instilled this value in his children at early ages by having them work in the garden and the tobacco fields right along with him. Oie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carltina “Tina” Hall. He also leaves behind his children, Cynthia Black and husband Billy, Neil Hall and wife Michelle and Karla Hagan and husband Larry all of Weaverville; his grandchildren, Natalie Bateson and husband Ben, Kara Ann Hagan, Vance Hagan and Cambell Hall; great-grandchild Ephraim Bateson; sister Janet Hall of Mars Hill and special furry friend “Missy” who never left his side during the last years of his life. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday July 29, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverends Marjory Kiess and Kent Smith will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Aston Park Healthcare Center for the exceptional love and care they provided to Oie during his time with them.
