WEAVERVILLE – Oakley Campbell, 88, passed away on Monday July 24, 2023.
A native of Perry County, KY, Oakley was the son of the late Morgan Campbell and Mary Ellen Collins Campbell. He spent time living in Cincinnati, OH, South Bend, IN and finally settled in Weaverville, NC in 1983.
As a young man he started working for Balcrank. In February of 1954, Oakley married the love of his life, Rose Bowling and they moved to Cincinnati, OH. He continued working for Balcrank for over 50 years. He retired in 2000 and was called back for another 5 years. Oakley was responsible for several patents for machine parts that are still owned and controlled by Balcrank.
He was known by his family and friends as a real “MacGyver” type of man who could fix anything. He enjoyed cars and drag raced for a period of time. He was also fond of Go Karts, baseball, softball and bowling.
Along with his parents, Oakley was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; a son, David Campbell; and two sisters, Loretta and Odetta.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Campbell Stewart and her husband, Paul; two grandchildren, Evan Niemier, and Olga Stewart and her partner, Anthony Creed II; two great grandsons, Palmer and Liam Creed; a brother, Wayne Campbell and his partner, Hattie; and a sister, Phyllis Trosper and her husband, Glenn. He also leaves many friends scattered from Weaverville, NC to South Bend, IN.
A private graveside service will be held by the family at West Memorial Park.
