Noel was proceeded in death by his mother and father; one brother, Neilan Brewer; two sisters, Dorothy Eloise Curtis, and Sylvia Jean Terry; one son, Rodney Gene Brewer; and two grandchildren, Micah David Brewer and Zechariah Issac Brewer.
Noel served 6 years (1953-1959) in the Oklahoma Army National Guard as a Tank Crew Member and Tank Commander attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (E6). Noel graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and as a member of Eta Kappa Nu Fraternity. Noel started his career with North American (Rockwell) Defense, which was later purchased by Boeing. During Noel’s 34 years in the defense industry, he served as an electrical engineer, the Electrical Support Project Manager for the B1B “Lancer” Bomber and worked on the Minute-Man Missile Program as well as other defense industry programs. Noel retired in 1995, with wife Ginny in Huntington Beach, CA, before moving to Bloomsburg, PA and later to North Carolina.
Noel grew up on a farm homesteaded by his grandfather in Indian Territory gaining tenacity, grit and his work ethic from a young age. From his experiences on the farm, during the Great Depression and the “dust bowl” era, Noel shared many stories of hardships, humor, and triumphs with the family during reunions or family visits. Easily encouraged to pick-up his guitar and sing the “Rooster” song; he was bigger than life for his children and many of his grandchildren. His quiet wit and love of discussing the latest technology, a favorite project, or your latest endeavor, made every visit a memory his family will always cherish.
A gathering to honor Noel’s story and share cherished memories will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the Family asks for donations to be made to the Manna Foodbank, 99 Broadpointe Dr., Mills River, NC 28759.
