Melba Woody Williams

ASHEVILLE – Melba Woody Williams, age 92, of Asheville, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026.

Mrs. Williams was born on September 11, 1934, in Madison County, and had lived in Buncombe County since she was seventeen years old. She was a graduate of Blanton’s Business College and retired as Manager of the Asheville Hearing Aid Center. She enjoyed touring and traveling in their Model A Ford being driven by her beloved, George. Melba loved sharing Jesus and Tar Heels basketball.

She was the daughter of the late Hal and Georgia Haynes Woody. Also, preceding her in death are her sisters, Motelle Willet, Edith Young, Etoliah Caldwell, Walene Treadway and Geraldine Woody; brothers, Wayne, Bill, Hayden and C. R. Woody.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, George D. Williams; daughter, Leisa Poitinger (Keith); sons, Tracy Williams (Teresa) and Gregg Williams (Kelly); grandchildren, Brandon Hawkins (Molly), Brittany Byers (Greg), Christopher Williams (Jessica), and Sarah Angus (Josh); and great grandchildren, Camden, Jordan and Hudson Byers, Elliott Williams, and Sabrina, Kathryn and William Angus; and Farrah and Brock Hawkins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Jim Dykes officiating.
