Margaret E. Vess

MARGARET E. VESS ASHEVILLE – Margaret E. Vess of Asheville and formerly of Lake Lure went home to be with the Lord March 6, 2017, on her 91st birthday, after a brief illness. Mrs. Vess was born March 6, 1926 in Rutherford County to the late Edgar S. and Ocie Frady Whitesides. She was retired from the Town of Lake Lure. Mrs. Vess was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a former member of Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Lake Lure. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray J. Vess, who died in 2000; brother, Weldon Whitesides; and sister, Lucy McDaniel. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara McCurry and husband Ford of Leicester; son, Garry Vess and wife Vickie of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, David McCurry, Edna Mae Hollar, John Leakey, Diana Lowery, Paul Vess, Melanie Vess; along with 3 great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017, in the Chapel at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Rd., Asheville, with Reverend Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr., and Reverend Allen Rash officiating. Burial will be in Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lake Lure. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
