Mrs. Annie Louise Radford Plemmons, 90, of 6 Wiley Drive, Asheville, passed away Tuesday, March, 22, 2022, after a period of declining health.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the Chapel of West Funeral Home in Weaverville with the Rev. Wesley Pike and the Rev. Jerry Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the services at West Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 27, 1931, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Crystal and Hannibal Beard Radford. Mrs. Plemmons was married to the late Wiley Lee Plemmons. She was preceded in death by their daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Lorraine Plemmons. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Christine Radford and brothers, Charles Eugene “Moose” Radford, John Melvin Radford Sr., and Hannibal Beard Radford Jr.
Mrs. Plemmons held an associate degree from then Mars Hill Junior College. Married Sept. 5, 1958, she worked the family farm with her husband, Wiley, for many years. Mrs. Plemmons was also known for her gardening, with many varieties of flowers adorning the home place as well as fine crops of vegetables. Though in later years, she had to share the harvest with the “critters” that visited her home, including a family of groundhogs who took residence in the crawl space. She was also a two-time survivor of breast cancer.
She was also known for extensive genealogical research, tracing the family trees of the Plemmons, Radford, Haney and related families. She collected information and photos of many family members and compiled books for close family members.
Survivors include her son, Luke Plemmons, who along with his wife, Ruth, took great care of Mrs. Plemmons; grandchildren, Cassie and Ethan Plemmons (Luke and Ruth’s children); her son, Mark Plemmons and his wife Dr. Kimberly Plemmons, and grandchildren, Jordan Plemmons and Dr. Dayne Plemmons and his fiancé, Dr. Sveta Morozova; two brothers, Ben Radford and Leroy Radford; special friends, Donald and Pat Deweese, and many nieces and nephews.
