Leonard (Len) George Wise

Leonard (Len) George Wise, 82, passed away on September 18, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, following a valiant battle with a bacterial heart infection.

Born May 2, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Cecilia (Kowalski) Wisniewski. Len began his career in insurance at the age of 20 and went on to own and operate independent insurance agencies in Illinois and Florida.

Known for his wonderful sense of humor, endless supply of jokes, and many stories, Len had a gift for bringing laughter to those around him. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, boating, and spending time with family and friends.

Len is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dr. Pamela Putman Wise, his cherished dogs Huey and Dewey as well as three children, David Wise (Melanie), Paul Wise (Nancy), and Susanne Duncan; five grandchildren, Haley Ruffin, Adam Ruffin, Cooper Duncan, Sawyer Wise, and Emily Wise; and great-grandchild, Ashton Ruffin (and another on the way).

He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry Wisniewski (Honore), Virginia Plucienik, and Joan Behrendt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Cecilia Wisniewski, and his brother, Ronald Wisniewski.

Len will be fondly remembered for his humor, his stories, and the many cherished memories he leaves behind.

Funeral and Memorial Services:

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at West Family Funeral Services, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, North Carolina 28787. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to one’s charity of choice. An additional memorial service will be held in the Chicago area in November 2026 with further details to be announced.
