Leonard G. Wilburn

WEAVERVILLE- Leonard G. Wilburn, age 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, May 15th, 2023. He was born on July 7th, 1939, to the late Arthur and Maude Workman Wilburn.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, John Wilburn, Mary Wilburn Clemmons, and Rosie Wilburn Muller.  He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew him.
   Leonard was a man of many talents, from his time serving in the United States Marine Corps to his “jack of all trades” career.  These skills included electrical work, maintenance, and machine operator to name a few.  His grandchildren will always remember his favorite saying – “Don't take any wooden nickels." Leonard was known for being hardworking and loving as a husband, father, and grandfather. He had a kind heart and was always willing to help others.
   Leonard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Meadows Wilburn; daughters Cindy Wilburn Crabtree (Kenneth) and Gail Wilburn Ward (John); grandchildren Erin Crabtree, Sara Crabtree Forgie (Gabriel), Grant Ward and Emily Ward; great-grandchild Logan Forgie; and sisters, Doris Wilburn Fox and Susan Wilburn Seagale.
   A graveside service to celebrate Leonard's life will be held at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville, NC on Wednesday, May 17th at 11:00 am.  Reverend Randy Sluder will officiate.
