Joseph "Joe" Lister Ethridge, Sr.

WEAVERVILLE – Joseph “Joe” Lister Etheridge, Sr., age 88, of Weaverville passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Mission Hospital.

Mr. Etheridge was born on August 18, 1937, in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Alfonso and Mary Elizabeth Lister Etheridge. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Doris Revelle.

Joe attended North Carolina State University. He proudly served in the Army and was a military advisor in the early years of the Vietnam War. Later he served the state of North Carolina as a civil engineer, winning the National Paving Award for his work on the Raleigh Beltline.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Story Etheridge; sons, Joseph “Joey” Etheridge, Jr. of Tokyo, Japan, Jonathan Etheridge of Charleston, SC, and Mark Etheridge of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Kai and Erin Etheridge, Amelia and Colson Etheridge, and Karolyne and Wyatt Etheridge; and honorary family member, Bill Faison.

A private celebration of Joe’s life will be held by his family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
