Obituary

Jeffrey Chapman, 68, of Weaverville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Jeff was born on September 9, 1958, in New York City, to the late Talmadge Hope Chapman and Jadwiga Victoria Szumska Chapman. He spent much of his life in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he built not only a remarkable career, but a legacy of service, generosity, and compassion that touched countless lives.

For more than 25 years, Jeff dedicated his career in finance to serving the nonprofit community of Palm Beach County, working alongside organizations from the Glades to Lake Worth and Boynton Beach. As a Chief Financial Officer, he brought far more than financial knowledge and expertise to his work. He brought a genuine belief in the missions of the organizations he served and a deep commitment to the people who depended on them.

Throughout his career, Jeff helped strengthen organizations devoted to supporting some of the community's most vulnerable populations, including uninsured families, children, and individuals living with disabilities. His contributions extended well beyond balancing budgets, securing grants, and overseeing financial operations. He was a trusted colleague, mentor, and steady source of guidance, always willing to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand to others navigating challenges of their own. He understood that behind every financial decision was an opportunity to help an organization better serve someone in need.

In 2024, Jeff's lifelong commitment to service and professional excellence was recognized with the prestigious President's Lifetime Achievement Award, a fitting honor for a man who had spent so much of his life giving his time, talents, and expertise in service to others.

Yet, for all that Jeff accomplished professionally, nothing brought him greater pride or happiness than his family. He loved deeply and took immense joy in watching his children grow, pursue their dreams, and achieve their goals. Their accomplishments were his celebrations, and he was always among their proudest supporters. Whether offering words of encouragement, sharing his wisdom, or simply being there when it mattered most, Jeff had a way of making those he loved feel supported and believed in.

As a devoted husband, loving stepfather, and cherished father figure, Jeff gave his family something far more valuable than anything he could have achieved in his career: a lifetime of love, guidance, encouragement, and memories they will carry with them always.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 25 years, Carmelle Chapman; his daughters, Alexandra Okolie, Francesca Okolie, and Stefania Okolie; his brother, Mark Chapman, and sister-in-law, Barbara Chapman; his grandson, Robin Kirkland IV; and the many extended family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Palm Beach County has lost a true gem, and his family has lost a man whose love and presence can never be replaced. Jeff leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured solely by the organizations he strengthened, the awards he received, or the professional accomplishments he achieved. It lives in the people he helped, the colleagues he guided, the communities he served, and the family he loved so dearly.

A life of purpose is not measured simply by what one accomplishes, but by what one gives of themselves along the way. Jeff gave generously, loved wholeheartedly, and made a difference in ways both great and small. Though his absence will be deeply felt, the good he brought into this world will continue long after his passing.

He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and remembered with gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
