WEAVERVILLE – Janet Elaine Buckner, age 81, of Weaverville passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Mission Hospital.

Janet was born on July 19, 1945, in Buncombe County, a daughter of the late Tillery Harrison and Grace Wild Buckner. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Buckner.

Janet was a resident of Madison County for part of her life until moving to Weaverville. She had a long career as a bank teller at Wachovia Bank. Janet loved knitting hats for cancer patients and had knitted over two thousand of them. She also loved to do puzzles. Janet was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church since 2000, and her Sunday school class, Fishers of Men, was very dear to her.

Surviving is her brother, Charles Buckner and wife Mary Anne; nephew, Jerry Buckner and wife Donna; and great nephew and niece, Nathan Buckner and Rachel Buckner. Special thanks to Mission Hospital staff who worked graciously with Janet and her family.

Funeral Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2026, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Tony Hooper officiating. Burial will follow in Bowman Rector Cemetery, Marshall.

The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2026, prior to the service at the funeral home. West Family Funeral Services is honored to be serving the Buckner family during this time.
