Jane Buckner Ponder

JANE BUCKNER PONDER WEAVERVILLE – Jane Buckner Ponder, age 77, of Weaverville died Saturday, January 14, 2017. Mrs. Ponder was born February 15, 1939 in Buncombe County where she had lived all her life. As a homemaker, she always put her family first, she loved animals and her daughter, Catherine’s dog, “Baby Girl.” She loved gospel music and didn’t want her sickness to stop her husband from singing. A member of Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late Roy L. and Hazel Rice Buckner. Mrs. Ponder was also preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice DeBruhl; and a grandson, Jason Banks. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Dennis Ponder; daughters, Beverly Grant and husband Benn, and Catherine Ponder; son, Gerald Ponder and wife Nina; sisters, Pauline Hunter, Joann Snyder, and Edna Mull; brother, Larry J. Buckner; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Roy McPeters officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017 at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
