James Michael Moran

  WEAVERVILLE - James Michael Moran, age 78, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 8, 2022.

   Mr. Moran was born August 14, 1944, in Syracuse, NY and lived there until he went away to college. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1966 with a degree in chemical engineering. While at Vanderbilt he met the love of his life, Sybil. He soon went to work in Mt. Pleasant, TN., with a company now known as Rhodia, later transferring to their home office in Connecticut. He lived in Connecticut for the next 21 years where they raised their family. He was involved in the startup and later building of North Park Baptist Church.  In 1995, he was transferred to New Jersey where he finished his career with Rhodia. While living in nearby Newtown, PA, he was actively involved in the ministries at First Baptist Church Newtown.

   In 2003, he retired and moved to Weaverville where he was involved and became a very dedicated member of North Point Baptist Church.  James was an avid golfer and sports fan. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling around the country visiting all of his children and grandchildren.

   He was son of the late Henry Andrew Moran, Sr., and Elizabeth Jones Moran. Also preceding him in death are his sisters, Sibley Moran Labandeira and Jocelyn Moran.

   Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years Sybil Dula Moran; daughters, Elizabeth Brown (David), Rachel Schmidt (Don) and Hannah Pritchard; a son, James Thomas Moran (Kristin); sister, Mary Jane Moran (Roy Billings), brother, Henry Andrew Moran, Jr. (Holly); sixteen grandchildren: Natalie, Meredith, Nathan, Laura, Benaiah, Darlene, Isaac, Caleb, Evelyn, Eleanor, Alia, Joel, Asher, Ruth Anne, Clara and Jude;  and four great grandchildren: Abigail, Eden, Lily and Judah.

   His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2022, in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville. Pastor Johnny Byrd will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, starting at 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.
