WEAVERVILLE – James “Jim” Kent Rogers, age 95, of 24 Church Street died Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Mr. Rogers was born December 30, 1929, to the late James Andrew and Eliza Kent Rogers; he lived in Buncombe County all of his life.
Jim retired from Southern Bell Telephone in Asheville after 38 years of service. A loving father and dad, he enjoyed his family and friends. During earlier years, Jim was actively involved in the Weaverville Men’s Club, the Lions Club, and later, the Weaverville Museum. He served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville where he was a member for many years. Jim was an avid model railroader for over 75 years. He and his wife Barbara enjoyed working in their yard, tending flowers and traveling with the Golden Friends at the church. Jim also served 7 years 9 months in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Rogers who died September 9, 2019, a grandson, Joshua Harrison, who died August 5, 2017. Also preceding him were his two brothers, Bill Rogers and Carroll Rogers; two sisters, Barbara Dean Jordon and Betty Jean Rogers.
Surviving is a son, Terry Rogers and wife Carolyn; daughter, Teresa Harrison; son, Tony Rogers and wife Libby; four grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jean Rogers and Nellie Rogers.
Jim’s funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Dr. Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
