BURNSVILLE – Jack Atkins, age 97, of Burnsville and formerly of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Jack was born on May 23, 1928, in Buncombe County where he had lived all his life until about three years ago. He was employed at Deal Buick for many years in the body shop and also delivered the Asheville Citizen-Times for a long time. He loved to bear hunt and garden. Jack was a World War II Veteran serving in the Marine Corps. He was a member of West Burnsville Church of God. Jack was the son of the late Rev. Laban A. Atkins and Lena Ray Atkins and was also preceded in death by brothers, Garrett, Terrell, Luther, Don, Roscoe, Redford and Max Atkins; and sisters, Nola Shepherd, Dixie Bennett, and Ethel Anders.
Surviving is his wife, Maggie Riddle Atkins; son, Wayne Atkins and wife Lisa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Randall Phillips, Rev. Ronald Dodson, and Rev. Harold Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts St., Weaverville.
The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the funeral home.
