Irene Nelon Harwood

WEAVERVILLE – Irene Harwood, age 101, of Weaverville, died Friday, December 23, 2022 at Four Seasons Elizabeth House.  A native of Buncombe County, Irene was the daughter of late Eldred and Ethel Davis Nelon.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Lee Harwood who died in 1993; sisters, Genevieve Franklin, Audrey Searcy and Ann Reagan.

She is survived by her son, David Lee Harwood and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Ponton and husband, Jay, and Jeremy Lee Harwood; great-granddaughter, Theodosia Elizabeth Ponton, and one on the way, Isabella.  She is also survived by a brother, Bob Nelon and his wife, Anne.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 30, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville. Reverend Skip Gillikin will officiate. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Candler.
