Ion Ghencea

ASHEVILLE – Ion Ghencea, age 83, of Asheville, died Thursday, August 27, 2026.

He was born April 29, 1943, in Moldova and has been a resident of Asheville for several years.

He is survived by his daughter, Lidia Cojocari and husband (Iosif); his sons, Nicolae Ghencea and his wife (Victoria), and Ilie Ghencea and his wife (Liuba); and several grandchildren.

His first Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 30th, from 5:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, NC 28787.

His second Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, NC 28787.

A procession will immediately follow to Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Hwy., Asheville, NC 28806, where he will be laid to rest.

Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home by 4:00 p.m. Saturday or after 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
