Howard M. McKenna

SWANNANOA – Howard M. McKenna, age 86, of Swannanoa, joined his wife of 64 years, Harriet, in heaven, Thursday, February 8, 2018, she died on January 31, 2018. Howard was born September 19, 1931 in Akron, OH to the late George B. and Jennie Smith McKenna, and was a resident of Buncombe County for the past 35 yrs. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a retired machinist. After they retired, he and his wife loved traveling across the nation in their R.V. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville. Surviving are his daughters, Patricia Purcell and husband Bill, and Roberta Jamison; son, Gary McKenna and wife Kathy; sisters, Blanche Jones and Margaret Galloway; eleven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A joint memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. McKenna, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in First Presbyterian Church, Weaverville. Rev. Skip Gillikin will officiate. Private burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am Wednesday at the church. West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
