Homer Carroll

WEAVERVILLE – “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” Homer graduated to Heaven February 6, 2024. He was born March 30, 1935, to the late Will and Irene Carroll in Yancey County.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Norma; shelties Kaylee and Kookie; grandson Brandon Carroll and wife Mindy; great-granddaughter Aleigh; sisters, Edith Phillips, Judy Thomas, Thelma Owens, Joyce Bryant, Geraldine Coles, and Rosemary Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased in addition to his parents and late wife Mary Alice Carroll are son, Randy Carroll; brothers, Deward, Kenneth Bruce, Welzie, and Claude Carroll; sisters Mary Magdline, Nola Ward, and Beulah Murphy.

Homer was licensed in April 1967 and ordained January 1968 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and later served as pastor of Ivy Gap Baptist Church in Burnsville, North Carolina for several years.

He and Norma’s first date was to the World’s Fair in Knoxville in 1982. They were married in August 1982.

Homer worked for Talman’s Office Supplies and Wyatt’s Business Machines before starting Carroll’s Office Supplies. He owned it for 30 years before retiring. Homer and Norma served together at Elk Mt. Baptist Church, Deaverview Baptist Church, and now Oakley Baptist Church.

He knew the power of prayer and the Word of God. He enjoyed traveling, cars, animals, and was always up for an adventure.

His Celebration of Life will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Avenue, Asheville, North Carolina 28803. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. Pastor John Alexander and retired Pastor Tom Pierce will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Avenue, Asheville, North Carolina 28802.
