Hazel Moore Penland

WOODFIN – Hazel Moore Penland, 95, of Woodfin, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Mrs. Penland was born, May 2, 1928, in Madison County to the late John P. and Ella Robinson Moore. Hazel grew up in the Beech Community of Weaverville. She retired from Buncombe County Clerk of Court in 1993 after 27 years of service. She was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Penland who died in 2004

Surviving is her daughter, Katherine Hyder; sons, John H. Penland and Richard H. Penland and fiancé Jamie Chapo; grandchildren, Dillon, Jarrett, Fallon and Bradee Hyder, Chase and Austin Penland and Shawna Penland; as well as several great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 PM on Saturday prior to the funeral service.
