Harriet Gatchell McKenna

SWANNANOA – Harriet Gatchell McKenna, age 83, of Swannanoa, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Mrs. McKenna was born December 28, 1934 in Massillon, Ohio and was a resident of Buncombe County for the past 35 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville. She was retired and enjoyed crocheting; and was accomplished in swedish weaving and huck embroidery. These items were precious to her and she enjoyed giving them to family and friends. Her parents, Scott K. and Hazel R. Sidaway Gatchell, preceded her in death as well as her sisters, Ann and Roberta; and brother, Kenneth. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Howard M. McKenna; daughters, Patricia Purcell and husband Bill, Roberta Jamison; son, Gary McKenna and wife Kathy; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
