Geneva Hensley Wilson

ASHEVILLE – Geneva Hensley Wilson, age 85, of Asheville passed away on April 7, 2024, at the Solace Hospice Center.  She was born in Yancey County on March 28, 1939, to the late Berry and Edith Hensley.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wayne Wilson in 1993; daughter, Rhonda S. Freeborn in 2000; and sister, Marie Haney. 

Geneva was a loving grandparent who cherished spending time with her family. She loved to decorate for the holidays and she had a passion for baking pies and cakes, with chicken and dumplings being her favorite dish to prepare.  She loved to garden and loved having flowers and bushes around her home. She always wanted her yard to be the nicest on the street. Throughout her life, Geneva dedicated herself to caring for various backyard pets and wildlife, especially squirrels, birds, and other creatures. Her nurturing spirit extended not only to animals but also to her loved ones.
    Geneva's proudest accomplishment was her unwavering dedication to her family. She provided love, support, and guidance to those around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
    She is survived by her son, Jack D. Wilson and wife Charlene; sister, Alma Forbes and husband Gary; brothers Edmon, Herman and wife Linda, and Cline Hensley Jr. and wife Gwen; as well as grandchildren John, Hannah, Toby, Cody, Caroline, Holly, and Dion.
    Services to honor Geneva's life will be held at West Family Funeral Services in Weaverville at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 13, 2024, with her brother, Rev. Cline Hensley, Jr. officiating.   A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, when friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman who will be dearly missed but forever remembered.  The burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, NC   28804.
