Rev. Gay Walter Tweed

LEICESTER – Rev. Gay Walter Tweed, 88, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Cranberry House in Newland, NC.

Walter was born on January 29, 1936 to the late Liston and Ruby Hunter Tweed. For 43 years, he was married to the late Edith Black who died on October 30, 2011.

In addition to his parents, Walter was also preceded in death by Lillian Jean Hyatt Tweed; his daughter, Angela Hensley Weinman;  brothers, Richard, Clyde, Sherman and Kenny Tweed; and sisters, Beulah Davis and Betty Fortner; and a stepson, Gary Black.

Surviving are his grandson, Roger Hensley; great grandsons, Blake and Corbin; great granddaughter, Addie; four stepchildren, Kevin and Dennis Black, and Darlene McCurry and Kathy Teague; and his sister, Jane Ramsey and her husband, Frank.

Walter was a man of faith who loved the Lord. He pastored Union Valley Freewill Baptist Church, Weaverville, for several years. He also loved fishing, hunting and camping and enjoyed being outdoors.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, February 12, 2024 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Anthony Fox will officiate. Burial will follow at West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 2:30pm at the funeral home.
