Gary Melvin Sales, Jr.

ASHEVILLE – Gary Melvin Sales, Jr., age 83, of Asheville died Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Mr. Sales was born May 5, 1937 in Buncombe County, where he had lived all of his life, to the late Rev. Gary Melvin Sales, Sr. and Hester Earwood Sales. Gary retired from Beacon Mfg. Co. as a weaver. He coached little league baseball and was a long-time member of the Fairview Fire Department. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon, sang in the choir and worked with the youth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Wright, Evelyn Keever and Irene Johnson.

Surviving is his wife of 40 plus years, Shirley Greene Sales; daughter, Debra Hardin; son, Steven Sales and wife Grace; sisters, Lovina Merrill and husband Alvis, and Garylee Goldsmith, along with several nieces and nephews.

His graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
