Gary A. Lankford

ALEXANDER – Gary A. Lankford, age 77, of Alexander, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

Gary was born on December 15, 1948, in Buncombe County where he had lived most of his life. He was an owner/operator truck driver and also a carpenter. Gary served in the Marine Corps from 1966 – 1969 during the Vietnam War where he was awarded three purple hearts. He was the son of the late Ralph Brown and Ethel Ratcliff Lankford.

Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Diane Lankford; children, Mitchell Lankford (Brooke), Amanda Lankford (Josh Redmond) and Glenn Lankford (Maria); nine grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Private graveside services will be held at Lankford Family Cemetery.
