Fred Franklin Briggs

Fred Franklin Briggs, age 86, of Weaverville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Born in Madison County on October 12, 1940 to the late William Fred and Erlean Hensley Briggs, he was a resident of Buncombe County most of his life. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Beatrice June Ponder Briggs.

Fred was a graduate of Madison High School. He retired from A & P grocery store as meat market manager and also worked at Stoney Knob Grocery and East Coast Marketing. He attended Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. Fred loved old cars, coaching Little League, and playing golf. He and his wife enjoyed going to Florida in the winter.

Surviving are his sons, Keith Briggs and wife Cecilia, and Kevin Briggs and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Brittany George and husband Justin, Kelly Penley and husband Alex, Jordan Briggs, Emily Briggs and Alex Briggs; great-grandchildren, Ian, Brayden, Jaylin, Ava, Logan, Mason, Addison, Bo and Willow; and their Florida Family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, 290 Sheppard Branch Rd in Weaverville, with Revs. Mike Thomas and Charlie Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
