Eloise Honeycutt Gouge

ASHEVILLE – Eloise Honeycutt Gouge, age 79, of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Mrs. Gouge was born on August 4, 1946, in Mitchell County and was a resident of Mitchell and Buncombe Counties for most of her life. She and her family also resided in Knoxville, TN for several years when her husband was transferred with the phone company. While in Knoxville, she paused her career and was a stay-at-home mom. Eloise was a 1968 graduate of Western Carolina University, earning her degree in education. She taught English in Buncombe and Mitchell Counties for 30 years, largely teaching the 7th grade at North Buncombe Middle School.

Eloise was detail oriented in every aspect of her life. Taking pride in being well dressed and very elegant, she was always meticulous in her appearance, to include her home and the family’s cherished dinners. She loved the flowers in her yard, gardening, and interior design. She taught Sunday School at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and at Weaverville Baptist Church. Eloise and her husband were long term members of Newbridge Baptist Church. She was a very loving mom to Robby and Kim and loved her grandchildren fiercely. She enjoyed visiting Ormond Beach, FL often where her daughter resides. She was a daughter of the late William Gibbs and Pearl Whitson Honeycutt.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years, Jack Gouge; her daughter, Kimberly Gouge Fulcher (Taylor); son, Robert Jack Gouge (Angie); sister, Barbara Jenkins; grandchildren, Summer Grace Fulcher, Savannah Caroline Fulcher, Jackson Wayne Gouge (Taylor), and Emma Ashley Gouge Ledford (Brayden); and great grandson, Baker Jack Gouge.

Funeral services will be held privately at West Funeral Home, with interment at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Carolina Foothills Hospice, Forest City Hospice House, 872 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043.
