Elizabeth Pegg Harkleroad

ASHEVILLE – Elizabeth Pegg Harkleroad, age 96, of Asheville passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Mrs. Harkleroad was born on December 13, 1929, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. Elizabeth was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Carroll Creed and Fleeta Hyder Pegg and wife of the late James L. Harkleroad to whom she was married to for 62 years. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her son, Rick Harkleroad; sisters, Georgia McMinn, Ruby Swann, Helen Keene, Ava Wells, and Faye Cole; brothers, James, Richard, Raymond, and Carroll Pegg; and grandson, Clint Harkleroad.

Surviving is her daughter, Lisa Gowing and husband Mark; sons, Mike Harkleroad and wife Robin, Dean Harkleroad and wife Kay; Daughter-in-law, Angie Harkleroad; sisters, Janice King and Sandra Robinson; grandchildren, Chris (Stephanie), Amanda (Nick), Kyle (Jessica), Alyssa (Doug), Ross (Aliyah), and Dawn (Derek); great grandchildren, Laney, Kendal, Ayda, Lexi, Sloane, Luca, Maverick, Adaline, Rowan, and Birch; and great great grandson, Vi.

Mrs. Harkleroad’s funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Scott Poole officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts St., Weaverville.

The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the funeral home.
