Edna "Polly" Jenkins King

ASHEVILLE – Edna “Polly” Jenkins King, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026. She is celebrating her birthday with her loved ones in heaven.

Mrs. King was born on February 20, 1947, in Buncombe County to the late Allen Woodrow Jenkins, Sr. and Thelma Searcy Jenkins. She lived her entire life at her homeplace in Asheville.

In her lifetime she worked various jobs, but her best job was a caregiver to many. She was always ready to help. She also loved working in her yard.

Polly was the oldest of five siblings which she is survived by. A brother, Allen Woodrow Jenkins, Jr. (Susan) of Asheville; sisters, Thelma Davis (Larry) of Asheville, Jennie Craig of Marion, Linda J. Haynes (John) of Nebo. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Richard William King, Sr, and a very special son-in law, Andrew Straight that she called her son.

She raised two sons, one daughter and a granddaughter. She has three granddaughters, one grandson, two great granddaughters and a great grandson on the way which she was so excited to meet.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed by so many. We will hold special memories in our hearts.

She had several special nieces and nephews which called her “Nanny”. She was like a second mom to them. They loved her unconditionally and she did the same. She had a special great niece, Isla Underwood. She loved her as a granddaughter.

Carolina King Straight, her daughter, took the very best care of her mom continuously. She did everything to make sure her mom was comfortable and had everything she needed.

Sierra King was a very special granddaughter she had raised since birth. She meant the world to her and called her mom. Her two fur babies, Daisy and Peaches, will be lost.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.
