Dorothy Yearout

Dorothy Hensley Yearout, 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Aston Park Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Yearout was born on June 25, 1934 in Madison County, the daughter of the late John Hensley and Elizabeth Rice Hensley, and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life.

Dorothy retired from Square D in 1999. She was a Sunday School teacher at Ridgeview Baptist Church where she had been active for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Yearout, Jr. in 2011; a daughter, Jewel Yearout; sisters, Sarah Jane Duck and Mamie Hensley; brothers, Garrett, Baxter, Coy, and William H. Hensley; and a great granddaughter, Bailey Yearout. Dorothy was also preceded in death by three sons in law, Ronald Surrett, Steve Davis and Michael Roberts; and a daughter in law, Nancy Yearout.

Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Shela Davis of Asheville, Susan Taylor (Donald) of Leicester, Joy Nash (Ervin) of Leicester, and Vera Lynn Roberts of Asheville; a son, Leonard Ray Yearout; a brother, Everett Hensley (Joyce); ten grandchildren, Richard Davis (Becky), Scott Yearout (Tommi), Jeffrey Surrett, Walter Davis, Joey Nash, Michael Roberts, II (Crystal), Jeremy Yearout (Rebecca), Tammy Peek, Tina Craig (Wayne), and Virginia Waldrup; nineteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Gary Fender and Rev. Dennis Lanning will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Baptist Church Cemetery, Mag Sluder Road, Alexander. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
