Dorothy Hensley McKinney

WEAVERVILLE – Dorothy Hensley McKinney, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at her home in Weaverville.

Dorothy was born on December 2, 1933, in Buncombe County to the late Richmond Pearson Hensley and Ora Spears Hensley.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill McKinney, six sisters, and four brothers.

Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, cooking, canning, and baking cakes for gifts. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church of Weaverville. She enjoyed weekly outings with her sister, Betty, her daughter, Vicki, and her niece, Deb.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Vicki McKinney, Lesia Houston and her husband, Perry; sons, Henry McKinney and wife Tina, Sam McKinney and wife Lesa, and Terry McKinney and wife Debbie; her sister, Betty McKinney; 16 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s funeral service will be held in the Chapel of West Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024. Rev. Preston Riddle and Rev. Jason Shelton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Michael Justice, T.J. McKinney, Michael McKinney, Shawn Stuart, Dwain Whitten, and Brian McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Trenten and Tanner Whitten, Jaxson Shelton, Blake Roberson, and Cameron Houston. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at West Memorial Park with her son, Henry McKinney, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would like memorial donations sent to Westview Baptist Church, 131 Indian Camp Branch Road, Weaverville, NC 28787.
