David Eugene McElroy, age 74, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
Born on August 23, 1952, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, David was the son of the late Berlon Smiley McElroy and Cora Marie Lewis McElroy. He spent most of his life in Weaverville and recently made his home in Mars Hill.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara Lynn McElroy; his daughters, Vicki Rogers and her husband, John Rogers, and Caitlin McElroy; his granddaughter, Kylie Rogers; and his grandson, Joseph McElroy-McCoy.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Vera "Louise" Riddle.
David's greatest joy was his faith in Jesus Christ. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived each day and in his kindness toward neighbors, friends, family, and all who crossed his path. He faithfully attended Weaverville United Methodist Church and sought to reflect God's love through compassion and generosity. David will be remembered for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit, warm smile, and the love he shared so freely with others. While his family grieves his absence, they find peace and comfort in knowing that he is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior and has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
David dedicated many years of service as a dialysis technician with DaVita Kidney Care before retiring. Following retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, being surrounded by his grandchildren, cheering on the Asheville Tourists, fishing, and making memories with his beloved black Labrador, Joe. David's legacy of faith and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May his memory be a blessing, and may his steadfast faith continue to inspire all who were touched by his life. Arrangements for a celebration of life will be made at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or food, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in David's honor to Manna FoodBank. Donations may be made online at: https://mannafoodbank.org/donate/.
