David Lamar Edwards

ASHEVILLE, NC- David Lamar Edwards, 94, died at home surrounded by family and friends on March 25, 2023.  He was born on November 26, 1928 at home in Rome, Georgia to the late Roberta Nell Edwards and Ralph C. Edwards.  David had 2 siblings that lived to adulthood, both whom preceded him in death. 

After high school, Mr. Edwards worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Rome, GA and served in the Marine Corp Reserve followed by 4 years in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electrician.  David worked for Georgia Power & Light as a lineman before his 37 year career with IBM in various positions. The family lived in numerous states during this time.

His life was devoted to his family and his loving wife of 60 years, Helen E. Wickham Edwards.  David fostered a love of learning & education. He encouraged a life of humility, generosity, and laughter. He enjoyed working the soil, and gathering with old friends in Rome, Georgia. David’s life was one devoted to service and servanthood; a legacy which lives on in all of his children and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his son, Sergeant Major (USMC ret) Alan R. Frazier and wife Lynn; two daughters, Karen E. Edwards and KathySkye E. Schrag and husband Grant; eight grandchildren, David Alan Frazier and wife Ellen, Ian Frazier, Captain Morgan Frazier (USAF), Michael Huffman and partner Amanda, Kyle Huffman and wife, Alyson, Katie Myrick M.D. and husband Wood Robinson, Emma Myrick, and Tessa Crespo; four step-granddaughters, Erica Schrag, Amy Starr, Amanda Pendergrass, and Emily Barton. He also leaves behind 2 great-granddaughters, Mya and Emery Frazier; one great-grandson, Lincoln Huffman and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family especially wishes to thank his best-buddy and caregiver, Brenda. Her constant care, devotion and friendship provided David with a healthy life during the last 5 years.  Also, we appreciate Barbara, Dottie, Ginger, Jeanette, and Jo for the thoughtfulness & kindness they provided David.  All of their companionship provided him with memories full of laughter and love.

Services for David will be held privately.
