Daniel Walter Rybarczyk

d. March 14, 2018

WEAVERVILLE– Daniel Walter Rybarczyk, age 88, of Weaverville, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He left us during a snowstorm which seems only right for a fellow born June 8, 1929 in Buffalo, NY. Dan joined the army at an early age. After training at Ft. Bragg he joined the Peace Keeping Forces in Vienna, Austria; there he was a member of the Army Hockey Team and also met Edith G. Scheiber, whom he married before moving stateside. He attended Engineer School in Murnau Germany where he worked as an engineer instructor and later at Ft. Belvoir Virginia. He served his country proudly in Seoul Korea and Pleiku Vietnam, retiring after 21 years of service. In April 1969, as a Master Sergeant E-8, Dan was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam (May 1968 – 1969). After retiring from the Army, he worked as a Civil Servant for the Army Corp of Engineers. Dan was a great athlete, especially fond of hockey, baseball and bowling. Dan was a devoted and loyal son, brother, soldier, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He remained a humble gentleman, in spite of lifetime accomplishments. His kind, loving joyful spirit came shining through till the end, as he smiled at us, and shared his love and humor with us. We have grateful hearts for all of the staff at Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville, who helped him in his final weeks. Everyone there treated him and our family with unbelievable respect, kindness and expertise. We are grateful that Dan is peacefully enjoying a glorious reunion with his beloved mother, Lottie, and his grandmother whom he spoke of so often in his final years. He will be missed forever. Surviving are his wife, Edith “Trudy” Rybarczyk; daughter, Terri Bayles and partner Walter Rose; grandson, G. Daniel Bayles; brothers, Robert, Bernard and Charles Rybarczyk; and sister, Ethel Schasel. We will carry on courageously without him, as he would want us to enjoy this good life we’ve been given, but we wait with anticipation for the day we will be reunited with him. His graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. June 6, 2018 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Good night sweet Prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
